Just Checking In
I was tasked with illustrating a poster for the #JustCheckingIn Campaign, which aimed to uplift and connect people through postcards and posters during the COVID-19 lockdowns. The campaign encouraged sharing these visuals between friends, families, and neighbours as a way of checking in and spreading kindness. My visual concept, “Neighbourly Love,” was inspired by the connections formed between those living close to one another during lockdowns. I illustrated window-like shapes that echo the form of mobile phones — a symbol of how many of these interactions took place. Within each “window,” people are depicted connecting and caring for one another, reflecting the idea that even in isolation, community and compassion persist. A hand-drawn illustration style was used to create a warm, lighthearted tone, bringing a sense of comfort and optimism to those who viewed it.
