Illustration Superstation
I was tasked with illustrating a poster to promote Illustration Superstation at the Open Window Institute in Centurion — an evening event where students are invited to freely paint, draw, and create. My visual concept, “The Map of Happy Accidents,” was inspired by the idea of finding beauty and order within chaos. I wanted to capture the creative process of starting with something abstract and shaping it into something meaningful. To reflect this, I used a fully hand-drawn and hand-painted style, beginning with a series of blind drawings and spontaneous paintings that I then developed into a map-like composition. This approach embodied the essence of the event itself — celebrating the joy of experimentation, discovery, and creating something beautiful from the unexpected.
